Bud Werner Summer Reading Program
This message/content is provided by Bud Werner Memorial Library, which is not part of or affiliated with Hayden School District RE-1. The school district does not endorse, promote, or sponsor this organization or its activities. Opinions expressed are those of the organization and not the school district.
Bud Werner Memorial Library challenges young readers to see if they can read or listen to books every day from June 1 to August 31. Readers can log their reading (of at least 15 minutes a day) on the paper brochure available at the Library or online using Beanstack. For every 30 days that you read, you can get a free book at the library or earn $10 to spend at Steamboat's only independent book store, Off the Beaten Path. Fast Math: that's a total of $30 to spend just for reading this summer! Plus, be entered into weekly drawings for local prizes! Make reading your favorite daily habit and register today! Hayden School District is looking for two parent volunteers to serve on the Health Advisory Committee (HAC) for the 2026–2027 school year.
Meetings are held three times per year at 4:15 PM at the school.

We are excited to offer a free summer program in partnership with Totally Kids for next year's 5th-8th grade students. The program will run Tuesday through Thursday from June 2 through July 16, 2026, with no program June 30–July 2.
Students will participate in the Hayden School District Summer Enrichment Experience each morning from 8:30–11:30 a.m., featuring hands-on activities focused on creativity, collaboration, problem-solving, exploration, and building connections with peers and staff in a fun and engaging environment.
Deadline to Register - May 15th, 2026

Totally Kids will provide afternoon programming and enrichment opportunities following the morning sessions.

Once your application has been accepted, the Director will contact you with registration and sign-up details. Please note that enrollment in Totally Kids is first come, first served.

Transportation Update – Hwy 40 Construction
Dear Families,
We want to make you aware of ongoing road construction on Hwy 40 and how it may impact our bus routes.
At this time, we anticipate delays affecting our route to November. Please be aware that afternoon drop-offs in Milner may run slightly later than usual depending on construction delays. We ask that you continue to arrive at your normal pick-up time, as exact delays may vary day to day.
We are currently working on a plan for our morning route to Milner and how to best adjust to these changes. If your student’s bus stop is directly affected, you will be contacted with specific information.
We appreciate your patience as we navigate this over the next few days and work to find the best solution for our students and families. Please note that if your student arrives late to school due to these bus delays, they will not be marked tardy.

As we approach our upcoming CMAS testing window (April 6–April 14), we want to share important information to help ensure a smooth and successful experience for all students.
Testing Schedule by Grade:
3rd Grade: April 6, 7, 8
4th Grade: April 7, 8, 9
5th Grade: April 7, 8, 9, 13, 14, 15
6th Grade: April 6–8
7th & 8th Grade: April 6–14
CMAS (Colorado Measures of Academic Success) is an important assessment that provides valuable information about student learning and helps guide our instruction.
Volunteer Reminder:
To maintain a secure and distraction-free testing environment, parent volunteers will not be allowed in classrooms for grades 3–8 during testing days. We appreciate your understanding and support in helping us maintain testing integrity.
How You Can Support Your Child:
There are several simple ways you can help your child feel confident and prepared:
Ensure your child gets a good night’s sleep each night
Provide a healthy breakfast each morning
Make sure your child arrives on time to avoid disruptions
Encourage your child to do their best and stay positive
Avoid scheduling appointments during testing days whenever possible
We are proud of the hard work our students have put in this year and know they are ready to show what they have learned.

We also want to give a huge congratulations to all of our Hayden wrestlers who qualified for State and competed this past weekend. Making it to the state tournament is an incredible accomplishment, and each of you represented Hayden with pride, determination, and sportsmanship.
