It is difficult to believe we are reaching the end of 2018. This time of year always compels me to pause and reflect on all that has been accomplished during the year. Hayden School District is proud of the successes accomplished during 2018. We were awarded a $38.9 million BEST grant to build a new PK-12 facility on the current elementary site. This was only made possible by the generosity of the community that passed a bond measure for $22.3 million in 2017. Ground breaking is scheduled for March and the facility will be completed by the start of the 2020-21 school year. Stakeholders also passed a mill levy override that will no longer sunset and allow us to continue focusing on small class sizes, maintain our facilities, and provide professional development support to our teachers to assure we are meeting the needs of our students. We cannot thank the generosity of the community enough for approving both these measures. As the first semester of this school year ended, some highlights to date include two full day professional development trainings for all educational staff along with monthly training for bus drivers and custodial staff, stable enrollment (we had 439 students as of October Count), and quality staff members including bus drivers, cooks, paraprofessionals, and teachers joined our staff. We have two new members that will start in January and we are excited to have them become part of our team.
Looking to the second semester, we have two events that we would like to extend an invitation to you. On Wednesday, January 16th @ 6:00 p.m. in the secondary library, we will have our second meeting to continue the discussion on the 4 day school week. This is a follow up meeting to gather additional input for the potential of moving to a 4 day school week at the start of the 2019-2020 school year. Results of the student survey will be shared as well as answers to questions that were brought up at the first meeting. In February, we will be hosting a community meeting and discussion on the design development for the new PK-12 school building. The date for this event will be scheduled in January. It will be posted on the district website as well as our Facebook page.
