High School Course Offerings

Welding

This class involves the exploration of manufacturing and construction through the use of metallurgical (metal) products. Emphasis includes Arc, MIG, and Oxy-acetylene welding in flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions. Plasma cutting will also be explored. The completion of a project is required in this course. Students may enroll in welding all four years of high school. Students who take welding their second year continue to advance their welding skills exploring basic certification testing & practicing. The emphasis is based on American Welding Societies and the American Petroleum Institutes welding standards and codes. Basic TIG welding of mild & stainless steel will also be explored. Completion of a major project in all advanced welding classes is required.

Mechanics & Auto Body

Students will explore automobiles as well as their evolution. The emphasis is on auto repair, rebuilding motors, drive trains, brake systems, electrical systems, fuel systems, suspension systems, and diagnostics as well as shop safety. ASE test preparation in all of these areas. Students will also explore auto body repair & painting. Students will learn basic sheet metal work, sanding, dent pulling, welding, painting flames, painting acrylic paint, metallic paint & clear coating.

College Welding

College Tig Welding — Offered during “0” hour  Pre-Requisites: Welding There is a $175 fee associated with this class. Students will learn advanced GTAW (TIG) welding procedures and techniques on mild steel, stainless steel and aluminum. Thorium, zirconium, ceria and 100% pure tungsten electrodes will be explored. Different shielding gases and welding currents will be used so students are prepared for industry.

Pipe Welding — Offered during “0” Hour Pre-Requisites: Welding There is a $175 fee associated with this class. The Pipe Welding program is designed to prepare students for an entry level position as a pipe welder. Major emphasis is placed on the welding, maintenance, & repair of a variety of pipe systems. At the end of the Pipe Welding program, students will be prepared for the 6G Pipe Welding certification test. Through hands-on training & real-world experience, students learn skills that are essential in working with pipe systems. These skills include using various welding processes & positions, blue print reading, & safety training. Certifications are earned through the American Petroleum Institute & tests are administered in our Babson-Carpenter Career and Technical Education Center by Mr. Kleckler.

College Welding Certification — 1 semester (2nd semester only) Offered during “0” hour Pre-Requisites: Welding and College TIG Welding There is a $175 fee associated with this class This course covers theory & practice in gas metal arc, flux-core arc & shielded metal arc welding processes with emphasis toward AWS welder qualifications with mild steel electrode E-7018, E-6010, ER71T & ER70S- 6 wire welding in the flat, vertical & overhead positions. Certifications are earned through the American Welding Society & tests are administered in our Babson-Carpenter Career & Technical Education Center by Mr. Kleckler.
